Google Search Engine

FINALLY! The Temple of Liberation features on the first page of a google search for 'temple of liberation.' About time too... The Tumblr I started only a few days ago also features, so it is beyond me to answer why it took this page so long to gain that tiny bit of recognition.

Yay, hopefully now more people can benefit from the work I am trying to do here: to re-sanctify human sexuality, spread awareness and come to higher states through the sacred rite itself.

Also, I would like to warmly welcome Sinner Unrepentant along on this journey

The MetaMorphic Ritual Theatre Company

began in 1994.

"Our aim is to find a medium between ritual and theatre, ie. public rather than private magickal rites which are a combination of pre-meditated/rehearsed and indeterminate spontaneous elements. We take 'theatre' beyond its usual bounds of 'pretending' into the realm of Becoming. We don't just act our characters, we Invoke them or related deities and/or archetypes." LINK

Sex and Spirit

This website explores sacred sexuality and erotic awakening.

"Sacred sex is about discovering the inherent instincts of sex to play, birth new life, unite us with each other and heal. It is about innocent ecstatic energy flowing through our innocent bodies. To discover the spiritual essence of sex is nothing short of a journey into the true nature of our selves.

If you embrace it as a spiritual way it can purify negative shadows out of your mind until your whole being shines with the Light of Life that is our actual essence." LINK

Temple of Liberation on Tumblr

As I am sure you have noticed, erotic imagery has featured heavily in the sources we have been gathering here on this blog. As such, we have started a Temple of Liberation Tumblr page that will focus more on imagery, while the focus of this page will be more on internet resources like articles, ebooks, websites, etc.

Sexuality and The Gay or Straight Question

This discussion started on Facebook but I decided I should develop it further for this blog. The conversation was about the controversy surrounded the film Bruno. A friend expressed the view that the depiction of homosexuals in the film was offensive in its stereotyping. But I felt that he missed the aspect of the film that was a social commentary on this, as well as other, stereotypes.

What I felt that was perhaps most offensive in the film is the artificiality of the human condition. Our concepts of sexuality are by and large artificial constructs developed through conditioning our psyche as we develop within our social context.

Why do we even care who is gay or straight? Is there even such a thing as either? why do we insist upon a choice? I dont believe anyone is entirely gay or straight, and that we are all at birth innately bisexual. For example, I recall on 60 minutes (or some such programme) a woman in prison saying how prison makes all woman gay. I am sure it is true for men also (the popular media certainly implies such) and it was true in the trenches.

We think the Ancient Greeks were Queer, but I am sure they would think the same of us. Did they contain some 'gay-gene' as some mentally retarded scientists seem to believe exists.

“Innate bisexuality (or predisposition to bisexuality) is a term introduced by Sigmund Freud (based on work by his associate Wilhelm Fliess), that expounds all humans are born bisexual but through psychological development (which includes both external and internal factors) become monosexual while the bisexuality remains in a latent state... Many modern uses of the term innate bisexuality are more indicative of Alfred Kinsey's research than Freud's. In this sense, it is a suggestion that most or all human beings are functionally bisexual to some degree, but may not express that bisexuality as behavior. Both theories have a great deal of controversy surrounding them, so it is particularly important to be aware of which is being discussed.” Link

The Art of Gustav-Adolf Mossa

"Gustav-Adolf Mossa was born in Nice on 28th January 1883. His father Alexis Mossa (1844-1926), was himself a painter from Nice who produced many posters for the Carnival of Nice at the end of the 19th century and would strongly influence the career of his son. Up to 1900, Gustav-Adolf studied at l'École des Arts Décoratifs de Nice where he familiarised himself with Art Nouveau. At the same time, his father introduced him to landscape art, the use of watercolours, and the surroundings of Nice, thus enabling him to develop a pictorial technique. As early as 1900, however, after the visit of the universal exposition, he was taken by the Symbolist movement and Art Nouveau..." Link

"Only after Gustav-Adolf Mossa died in Nice on 25th May 1971, was his Symbolist work rediscovered. It had been kept concealed by Mossa from a public that had known him essentially by his work as a printmaker for the Carnival of Nice..." Link

The Venus Project

What is perhaps the most difficult aspect of building meaningful relationships, sex lives and spiritual development?

Argueably, this would have to be finding the time and an environment conducive to those practices. We are so busy with work and social obligations, that it becomes very difficult to take the time out to focus on our spirituality. We don't the time or its hard to find a quiet spot to sit and meditate.

Last night my partner and I went along to The Venus Project lecture that was held in our town. The basic message resignates with us both: that today's social system is outdated and counter productive; that human servitude and debt is unnecesssary; that war and crime are unwanted symptoms of our outdated system that is based on the assumption that resources are scarce; that we need world unity; And most importantly, that we should stop trying to patch our failing system and start looking at new ways that society could be run.

The Venus Project not only critises our current system but poses a viable alternative. Some mistakingly call this alternative a utopia. However, The Venus Project does not advocate a utopia, but rather an emmergent civilisation based upon the very best possible science, technology, intelligent design and resource management.

The society they propose is a resource based economy. This means that all resources become the common heritage of all the worlds people and that the economy is based upon available resources (labour, technology and resources) as opposed to the monentary system that we have today. It sees a monentary system as an out growth of scarcity, which they feel is nolonger relevant today. Today we have the technology to create and abundence of all the necessities of life and that scarcity in todays society is mostly artificially created. One example of this is food. We already produce more than enough food to feed the entire human population. The only scarcity is money.

You might ask, who would work and for what if there was no money? Ultimately the majority of occupations would either become outdated or replaced by machines. This is a process that is already happening today. The only difference is that these machines would work for the good of humanity rather than that of a few.
Inncentive to work would come from a desire to learn, innovate and contribute to society. This sounds far fetched to some but it should be remembered that millions volunteer every year and that many advancements in science and technology did not come about for profit but the quest for knowledge.

In a world free of crime, debt and servitude, where your basic needs are meet as a humanright, one is free to advance their education free of charge, to invent,to create, to enjoy more lesure time, or to spend more time on their respective spititual path.

"The Venus Project is an organization that proposes a feasible plan of action for social change, one that works towards a peaceful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines an alternative to strive toward where human rights are no longer paper proclamations but a way of life." Link

A Brahmin's Livelihood

"Describing how a brahmin should earn his livelihood, Lord Brahma said to Narad: "Alms, which a brahmin gets without making any demand for it is called Vritta. 'Unchhavritti' is even better than Vritti, and it means collecting food grains which are scattered in places like fields, granaries, the market-place, etc. A brahmin should accept the dakshina that his host gives him after the completion of yagya-ceremony. He should engage himself in educational activities. He can also earn his livelihood by engaging himself in other auspicious activities."

Transcending the Ego

I am realising more and more that my ego is not actually useful to me, nor something I wish to further propagate. By serving ones own personal interests the ego neglects that of others and higher callings. It also craves permanence and thus produces suffering.
However, don't get me wrong. I am not looking to disinter grate my personality. Only that I wish it was working within the context of selflessness. Perhaps a contradiction of terms, but it is not intended as such. I do not necessarily see personality and ego as one (Then perhaps it is just my ego grasping at my conception of self).
The personality is simply the ways the individual manifests in the world. This is neither permanent nor fixed to the individual, it is constantly changing, but because we all develop under slightly different circumstances (both environmental and genetic) there is a uniqueness and a diversity of personalty types that should be celebrated. To live selflessly is not to forget or loose this.
Conversely, ego is the individuals selfishness, its craving for permanence and its false conception of its isolation. The individual is not one, the collective is one. The layers of self are too complex to say that this body is me but not that, because we are, for example in this case, defining our self in relation to what we are not.

Knowing that I seek to conquer my ego, as no longer of use to me, the question that I must now answer is how do I go about becoming more selfless. Surely, this articulation alone is part of that process, but where to from here. I guess there are many avenues I can explore. Obviously sacred sexuality is one (perhaps the one activity in which most people experience selflessness, and yet sex is often driven by the cravings of the ego). Meditation is another. Something I have been wanting to take up for sometime, but after academically studying transpersonal psychology and tantra, came to realise that these practices are not to be taken lightly. Guidance is required. Unfortunately as a student this is currently beyond my means. I have also considered living in a temple for a time but changed my mind when I realised that one must refrain from erotic behavior. I am not yet strong enough to put my sexuality on hold. Celibacy would likely drive me insane within days.
I guess I need to explore the topic more. Devote my actions to this goal, being conscious of how, or how not, my actions are conducive to achieving selflessness. Awareness is perhaps the most effective tool for change. All other actions must flow from this awareness, with the awareness itself creating internal changes paving the way for the more difficult tasks ahead.

Organically Sexy

Julie Brady, a sustainably focused designer, retailer and entrepreneur founded Organically Sexy in 2008. Julie was inspired by Kris Carr, the creator and filmaker of "Crazy Sexy Cancer" and the blog CrazySexyLife.com. Ms. Carr's work brings a fresh new perspective to living life with and beyond cancer. Organically Sexy aspires to do the same for sustainability. If cancer can be sexy, well then, so can being sustainable.

Organically sexy design—developed from raw intuition and intelligence—flows endlessly around us, expressed in a plethora of elements. It is evident in our interiors, a piece of furniture, bedding, clothing, art or even prose. Our perspective is informed by all things that support and reflect healthy lifestyles. We seek work and select artists that milk our creative juices, sharpen our wits, and arouse innovation.

The products we research display a broad spectrum of talent and skills of craftsmen, designers, decorators, artisans and fine artists from the United States and global fair trade businesses. Our topics are tantalizing and nourishing, contributing to the inspiring and healing qualities of the environment.

Not only are organically sexy musings fun to review, they are also informative, functional, sustainable, durable and light on the earth. Image provide by Peligrosa

Organically Sexy

Sacred Sexuality (a review)

This is something I firmly believe in and want to see better appreciated in the world at large, but most particularly in my own life. Perhaps it is easy to forget, given how we are surrounded by media that cheapens sexuality. It is important to reflect and reinteregrate with our sacred-sexual-selves.

In nature, sex is the coming together of two organisms. The result of which is the perpetuation of life. A miracle occurs through this coupling, life continues and evolves. In biology, sexual reproduction is an adaptive strategy. It is only through the merging of different genes that the species evolves. Through A-sexual reproduction, the organisms genes are continued but unaltered. Thus, there is no room for adaptation to changing conditions (i.e. evolution).

In humans, sexuality is far more complicated. In many cases reproduction has been displaced entirely. Even where a couple choose to reproduce, sex is not simply a function of a biological requirements, it is a bounding of spirits in the sacred act of love making, The Great Rite.

Certainly, there is sex that fufills purely biological urges, but (at least in my opinion) this kind of sex is both unsatisfying and impersonal, and perhaps even degrading (for all involved). I am not saying that you shouldn't have sex simply because you feel the urge, but your relationship to your sexuality has to run deeper than simply 'getting-off' for it to be sacred. Nor am I saying that you need to be in love to have sacred sex, or even have a partner.

Sacred Sexuality is about a more conscious relationship with your own sexuality and what it means to you. There is, at least in theory, a selfless quality to sacred sexuality and a desire to lose ones self in the sacred act.

Some definitions from within the context of this blog

Sacred Sex: A sex act that can be considered sacred; it is also, the inherient sacredness of sex

Sacred Sexuality: A deeper relationship with ones sexuality where the paticipents in the sacred act are considered divine and endevour to transcend the self through sex.

The Hermeic Library

The Hermetic Library was created in 1996, in the early days of the commercial Internet, and is one of the most comprehensive and popular resources on the Internet for the kind of information in its collection. Hermetic.com is justifiably famous, and perhaps a little infamous, as the source for an amazing collection of information useful to every researcher and student of esoteric studies and the modern Western tradition.

Aleister Crowley

Aleister Crowley (Oct. 12, 1875–Dec. 1, 1947) – however one judges him – was a fascinating man who lived an amazing life. He is best known as being an infamous occultist and the scribe of The Book of the Law, which introduced Thelema to the world. Crowley was an influential member in several occult organizations, including the Golden Dawn, the A∴A∴, and Ordo Templi Orientis. He was a prolific writer and poet, a world traveler, mountaineer, chess master, artist, yogi, social provocateur, drug addict and sexual libertine. The press loved to demonize him and dubbed Crowley “The wickedest man in the world.” From Aleister Crowley on Thelemapedia

Energy and fatigue

Lately I have been suffering from some form of fatigue. I am still yet to isolate the cause, but I suspect it is a number of factors working together to sap my reserves. Obviously it is normal to feel a little run down from time to time but I have felt consistently ran down for a couple of weeks. Thus, I have decided it is time I take this seriously and reclaim the high energy levels I am used to.

How does this relate to this blog you may ask? On a personal level, I do not feel overly motivated conduct the research upon which this blog is based.

In a more general sense, one has to be functioning optimally in their everyday life in order to focus on their spiritual pursuits. This is obvious. Before serious work can be done on ones spirituality one must have their mundane life in order. Thus ways to raise energy levels should be explored beforehand, unless you already feel you have an over abundance of energy (which is me in my normal state).

I have found the following list of ways to increase energy very enlightening.
5 Ways to Boost Your Energy

I would also add: taking ginseng until energy levels have returned to normal, and perhaps periodically there after; switch to a diet mainly consisting of fresh organic produce; get more exercise (though nothing too strenuous initially); detoxing the body; and seriously considering what factors in your life may be causing you have less energy than normal, perhaps you are not being entirely true to yourself and need to spend more time doing what you really love, or that you need some time out from the world to relax, reflect and recharge your battery.

Also take a look at this list... Link

A Short Break

The Temple of Liberation has not been forgotten! We will be back soon with even better content. Lately, we have been considering what direction we want to take this blog in, hosting options, web design and acquiring the resources to make this a quality blog. As well as preliminary work being put into creating original content for the blog as opposed to just links and excerts from other websites. We are due very shortly for our second monthly meeting where we will discuss these issues further.
If anyone can give us suggestions of blogging tools that do not discriminate against a blog that is trying to explore the liberation of human sexuality, we would be very interested to hear from you. Blogspot is great for starting up a new blog and for its ease of use but does not have all the tools we require. Wordpress would be perfect, it is highly adaptable, contains many excellent tools for webmasters and has the option to use it as a tool to launch a site on your own server. Unfortunitely Wordpress is also biased against x-rated material. So the search continues for a suitable blogging tool. We are also in the process of learning html to further enhance ours (and hopely you) blogging experience. On top of this I am in the process of putting together a computer that will better serve my needs.
We take this blog very seriously. It is now a part of your journey of self-discovery.

Integrating Spirituality & Sexuality by Linda Marks

"Take a look at the world around us and it becomes readily apparent that we are living in a time of simultaneous convergence and deconstruction... The gender roles we were raised with have broken down and blurred... As we live with breakdown and deconstruction at so many levels of life, one thread that emerges is a hunger and longing, both spiritual and erotic."

"Erotic energy is far more than sexual energy. It is life energy. As our culture has evolved splits between mind and body, head and heart, heart and pelvis and sexuality and spirituality, we have forgotten what it means to be fully alive."

"This backdrop provides fertile soil for an emerging movement working to integrate sexuality and spirituality."

“Sexuality and spirituality have always been joined and interwoven from the very beginning of the human race. It is only in the last 2000 to 3000 years of Western civilization that the two have been separated. And they have not just been separated, but have been seen as antagonistic to each other. The split between sex and spirit came out of the Greek philosophy of dualism, and a dichotomous view of humans as matter/evil/female and spirit/good/rational/male.” Bob Francouer

“When the human psyche reaches the point of convergence and breakthrough into a new level of consciousness,” reflects Francouer, “diversity is the first thing that happens. The energy spreads out and explores all kinds of possibilities. There is no one ideal paradigm nor five ideal paradigms. All the models we have had in the past have real difficulties being applied in today’s world. So people are creating their own models and patterns.”

“One of the things that energized a lot of movements was the common experience of feeling oppressed. A sense of oppression contributed to the emergence of blacks, women and homosexuals. But the oppression of our sexuality is not even recognized because sex is always in front of us. It’s in ads, on TV, in the movies. It is much more subtle oppression. As a result, it hasn’t given us that organizing energy that has created the feminist movement, the civil rights movement and the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community.” Ani Colt

"Existing practices and trainings approach integrating sexuality and spirituality from many different directions. For example, the Human Awareness Institute approaches this work from an emotional and interpersonal direction, giving people skills for deeper intimacy and connection through its Love, Intimacy and Sexuality workshops. Tantric work, on the other hand, approaches the body and its energy field from a rootedness in spiritual philosophy. Sterling community work focuses on distinguishing the differences between male and female energy."

This is a great article on, and introduction to, the field of study into sacred sexuality. It is well researched and contains many resources for further study. It also outlines some of the most prominent paths currently under development.

"Why is it called Unveiled? Not only are the Goddesses psychically unclothed and in their most natural state. They also reveal themselves emotionally, their passions and intimate facts. Little known sexual secrets will be revealed.
